On the 18th of December, the first day of Christmas break.  My nephew Kyran age 13 was involved in a tragic life threatening accident. Him and a friend of his where messing around with a pellet gun not realizing it was loaded. The gun went off and the pellet went into his brain. Destinie his mother had left town to get Christmas present for her kids. The gun belonged to his friends and Kyran's mother didn't know it was brought into the house.
His older sister was cooking supper when she heard it go off.  She quickly called 911. Kyran was awake and alert until he made it to the hospital. He was life flighted from Holton hospital to childrens mercy in Kansas City Missouri after sedating him. By the time his mom made it to children’s mercy he was already being intubated. The doctors put him in a medical induced coma and he was on life support for 10 days. During this time he had to have two surgery’s. During the first surgery the surgical team went in with the intention to take out part of his left frontal lobe and the pellet. When they started 100ml of blood came out and they removed a blood clot.  his ICP(pressure in his brain) had gone down so they did not remove any of his brain at this time. They surgeon was unable to locate the pellet at this time so he left surgery with the pellet still in.
He was doing good for a while and then the ICP lvs went back up. After a couple days of trying to maintain his pressure with medicine and nothing working anymore the doctor decided it was time to do a decompression craniotomy. They took him back to the OR  to remove part of his skull to relieve some more pressure and give his brain more room to swell. While in this surgery the surgeon was able to locate the pellet and remove it. He also had to remove part of Kyran’s brain in the area where the pellet was found.
After this surgery the doctor shut off the medication that was keeping him in the coma. It was approximately four days later he started showing signs of waking up. After finally having the breathing tube removed Kyran was doing amazing; woke up, waved, walked with a walker, wrote, and was able to nod and shake his head. A few days later Kyran had to have a blood transfusion his lvs were low and he wasn't responding well. Shortly after he had been in a lot of pain and in the Surgical team took him back in for his third surgery.

Kyran is a wonderful boy full of life and wild who has been through a lot in his life. Two years ago he lost his father and his uncle. Ky always said he wanted to grown up to become a Chiefs football player, that was his dream —unfortunately he will never be able to play football or any contact/collision sport again.

Destinie is a single mother of 4 kids. She is the kind of mother that puts her kids first. Right now times are very hard for her, emotionally, mentally, and even physically. needing to be with her son Kyran during this time she is unable to work. Destinie works at a nursing home taking care of people. This is one thing she loves to do, take care of people who needs help. I love my sister but she has a hard time asking people for help. So I am asking for her. He was in the hospital for 5 weeks. Recovery for Kyran can be 4-6 weeks and maybe more. Right now he is home but will have a lot of therapy. Kyran gets stronger everyday!

Many people in several communities have come together to provide love support and prayers and have also made donations. I know destinie is so grateful for everything.
During the next 4-6 weeks she will remain at home with Kyran taking care if him and his other three siblings. Like mentioned above she does not like to ask for help especially financially. She would rather go without and skip meals to make what money there is last as long as possible.
So I am reaching out for her. Anything is beyond appreciated to help her and her family get through this chapter of their lives. Thank you all again. God speed. #KyranStrong
