Kyrah’s Road to Recovery

Donation protected

On Saturday, December 12th, Sean and Rebecca had no idea that a minor complaint from their 9 year old daughter, Kyrah, about feeling yucky and a small rash would turn out to be the scariest thing they’ve had to go through as parents. Kyrah has now been diagnosed with the rare Stevens-Johnson syndrome along with toxic epidermal necrolysis due to a reaction to a medication that she was prescribed. Both of these diagnoses are forms of the same life threatening skin disorder that causes a painful rash that spreads over the entire body and then develops blisters. The list of possible complications during the treatment is lengthy and quite scary.

Kyrah is now in ICU in Chapel Hill and is being treated by the burn unit. Due to the painful process involved in her treatment, she is currently under full sedation and intubated to keep her comfortable, hydrated, and receiving proper nutrition. The doctors have said that her stay there could be weeks or even months.

Rebecca is with Kyrah in Chapel Hill, thus out of work.  As soon as the doctors say it’s okay, Sean and hopefully Kyrah’s siblings will be headed there to visit as much as possible.  This also means the family will most likely not be together for Christmas.

We are hoping to raise some money to help the family with the traveling expenses and loss of wages during Kyrah’s hospital stay.  And to also help with providing for the physical therapy and medical supplies that will be needed during her very long road to recovery.

Please keep the entire family in your thoughts and prayers!
