Kyozan is the resident pooch at the Enpuku-ji Zen Centre in Montreal and is the steadily precocious companion of the centre’s abbess, Myokyo. He is an important figure at the centre, both in and out of the meditation hall.
Following consumption of a long-dead squirrel on the mountain last week, Kyozan developed digestive issues over the week until, on Wednesday, his symptoms became much more serious – major diarrhea and vomiting. Myokyo rushed him to a vet in the evening and it was revealed that he had a serious problem. He was sent home, and after a sleepless night for them both, he was admitted to intensive care. He was put on I.V. fluids and medication and kept watch over for almost two days. Thankfully, now he is well enough to continue his meds at home. Yesterday, he began to eat small amounts of food. Kyozan is on the mend!
The vet bills amount to $1328.58, which is an awful lot to manage for the Zen Centre which, as most of you know, functions on a shoestring. If you are a friend of Kyozan or of the Zen Centre, or even just a friend of dogs, please consider a contribution to Kyozan's bills.
We, Seiun (Enpuku-ji monk) and Sara (Enpuku-ji Board member), have created this initiative to help Kyozan and the Zen Centre out.
Thanks so much!
