Kylie's Story

From Kylies mom, Lindsay:
Kylie is my amazing 19 year old daughter.
On July 4 a blood vessel in Kylie’s neck dissected which caused a blood clot to get stuck in her brain stem. The doctors were unable to find the blood clot for almost two days. So Kylie suffered a very severe stroke. This stroke affected her entire pons region of her brain. The pons contains nerves and nerve tracts (pathways) that integrate brain functions such as movement and sensory messages between the brain and the body. The pons also coordinates balance in the head, neck, and body and plays a primary role in eye movement, sleeping, dreaming, digestion, swallowing, breathing, and the heartbeat.
They call her condition locked-in syndrome. Sadly and very devastatingly
Kylie became a quadriplegic overnight. Thankfully Kylie’s ability to think, use logic, process thoughts and memories was not affected. She’s still Kylie in every way, she just has to relearn and teach her brain to control her body again. Kylie loves art, painting , tattoos, special effects work, make-up and planned on doing cosmetology with her many amazing talents. The doctors say her disabilities will be permanent. I don’t believe that and neither does she. We plan on taking this journey of healing together at home. To do so we will need a lot of expensive equipment to help her siblings and I care for her properly. We are trying to get Kylie an eye gaze system for her to communicate because she’s also lost the ability to speak. She has a tracheotomy and feeding tube for now, we are truly hoping those aren’t permanent also. She will need a wheelchair, ramps, and hospital bed at home. It’s going to take a village to care for my beautiful Kylie but she deserves the best care possible. And the best chances at a possible full recovery. I’m praying for a miracle and I’m asking for any help at all. Even if it’s just sharing Kylie’s story, a cup of coffee and praying with us for hope for her recovery. I do believe in her in every way. She’s strong and ready to work hard at getting her old life back. We love this girl to the moon and back! Please help if you can
