On Boxing day, Kylie and her partner were involved in a serious car accident on their way home from bushwalking up Mt Read on Tassie's rugged west coast. Kylie sustained life threatening injuries to C1 and C2 as well as significant injuries to her limbs, hearing and vestibular system. She was flown to the Austin in Melbourne for lifesaving treatment but is now in Hobart for rehabilitation.
Now nearly a month later she is still over 300 kilometres from home and her two children and just starting to try standing on her good leg and is using all her Occupational Therapy skills such as one handed dressing and pain management - loving her TENS machine! She is determined to get back to bushwalking again even though she has to permanently give up her other sports of aikido and umpiring AFL.
Her partner Josiah was physically uninjured and has been by her side every step of the way so far. Him staying away from home to be with her and learn to care for her is an ongoing expense, as is supporting the children who have been staying with other families and getting ready to go back to school. Kylie will be unable to return to work for quite some time and they would value any support possible to get through her recovery journey.
She and her family appreciate all the well wishes and messages of support from staff at Workxtra and her site at Baptcare Karingal. Thank you for your help.
