This fundraiser was inspired by David Goggins, a former navy seal, who's mentality about pursuing your goals will single handedly change your life. Initially I planned to do this challenge for "Fun", or more so to push myself in ways that I never have before. After much thought, I felt that this challenge needed a reason beyond that. As a Physician assistant in medical oncology, I am inspired daily by the patients I encounter. They pursue the ultimate challenge for weeks, months, or even the rest of their life, the challenge of fighting and defeating cancer. They come in every day no matter how high or low they are feeling, and they do it with immense courage. At times these patients have to fight this unbelievable battle with other burdens like housing, transportation, and the ability to even pay for meals. At the Billings Clinic Cancer Center, we are proud to serve patients from Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota, and for this reason patients may travel hundreds of miles for their care. You can imagine the financial and logistical strain that this can put on a patient and their family during a time in which their chief concern should be beating this unrelenting disease. It is for that reason that I want to give back to those that inspire me everyday. Even if it meant that I ran 48 miles in 48 hours to help ease the burden of just one patient, I would do it. With your help, we can do so much more than that. I understand that the times we are currently living in are financially stressful, and if you have the ability to give even $1 I encourage you to do so.
