Hi, My name is Kyle Castro and I am 14 years old. I’m really excited to have the opportunity to go to the 2017 National Scout Jamboree in West Virginia this summer! There’s a limited number of participants and I’m honored to have been chosen to be one of them. The National Scout Jamboree happens every 4 years so this will be my only opportunity to attend as a scout.

I’ve been involved in scouting since I was 12 years old. During my time as a scout, I have learned important life skills, how to become a good leader, and how to set goals that will help me throughout my life. I love the scouting adventures I get to experience with other young men who are also striving to better themselves.

During the Jamboree, I will be touring Washington DC and visiting national monuments as well as participating in many outdoor scouting activities. Some of the activities offered are: ziplining, a shooting range, mountain bike trails, white water rafting, kayaking, and rock climbing.

For this past year, I have spent extra time preparing for the Jamboree by attending training camp-outs as well as monthly meetings. I’m eager to be with other boys having similar values, goals, and visions of what it means to follow the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

Going to the Jamboree takes more than just paying for the event itself, I’m also responsible for supplying extra gear and scouting uniforms which, as you may know, adds up quickly:) Over this past year, I’ve been trying hard to save money but still have a long way to go in order to meet the fee deadlines.
