Aloha and Mahalo to you all for your love, concern, and support! We wanted to take a moment to "talk story".
I (Dawn) have worked for years to heal from auto-immune disease issues, battling adult-onset extreme food allergies, and health-cleansing in order to heal my body. We moved to the Big Island of Hawaii a couple years ago as our next step in my healing process, and my health has indeed been better here, making my conditions manageable. And with great leaps of faith, and in hopes that this pregnancy would be better and that I would be safe, we attempted pregnancy. We have been blessed with not just one baby, but two fraternal twin boys! We are amazed and humbled and give thanks for the miracle of these two little boys heading our way!
Our second child, (now age 6) came to us a month and a half early due to a sudden onset case of Eclampsia, manifested by a seizure in my sleep. It was a scary time for us, one that we never want to re-live, one that doctors claim couldn't have been predicted or prevented. We are all too well-aware of the hardship of having a child be in the NICU for care.
In addition to my diagnosis of twins: my pre-existing auto-immune conditions, my past pregnancy complications, and other factors, I am considered extremely high risk and was being watched closely.
About a month ago, I started having pre-mature labor and was life-flighted to Oahu, to a hospital with NICU facilities, with my husband, for immediate care. The contractions, although still frequent, have calmed enough to be released from the hospital after 5 days of testing, treatments, and monitoring. However, we must remain on Oahu close to the hospital, until babies are born and mature enough to fly home to the Big Island. I have appointments 3-4x a week and had been admitted once more for observation. The Doctors are watching closely, but the possibility of our boys being born early and having to stay in the NICU for weeks is high.
We've been staying at the Ronald McDonald house (they have room at this time for us) and are so grateful for that, for this unexpected experience has been such a financial nightmare, in addition to the emotional stress! I am required to have an attendee at all times, therefore my husband (Bo) has not yet been able to return home for work, despite mounting expenses (we've included an expense breakdown at the end of our comments).
We flew our older children to Cali to stay with grandparents to help with childcare stress during this unsettling time. We'll fly them back once the boys are born. We miss them like crazy!
We appreciate your continued prayers, support, and financial help through this challenging time in our lives. Much Mahalo to you all!
Mahalo Nui Loa and much Aloha~ the Kyler ohana
Actual and estimated expenses (for 2 months prior to birth and 1 month after birth):
Rent: $5400
Utilities: $3000
Food: $3600
Transportation to/from Oahu (airfare, car, fuel, etc): $4300
Incidentals: $300
Baby Gear (2x car seats, strollers, clothes, toiletries, double breasts pump, etc): $3100
Potential Additional Expenses, if boys are born early (lodging, fuel, etc): $4700
Medical: $4100
Total: $28,500
Total for Twin Boys: $11,900
These expenses are just the necessities and don't include extras (like for fun activities, clothes for us, fixing our non-operational van, etc.).
We had saved up money for the twin boys' needs, but didn't anticipate my husband not being able to work for 3 months to take care of me. Our savings should now cover our living expenses. We need financial help with the expenses for our twin boys.
