In the evening hours of Friday July 21, 2017, Kyle Pocha joined four other men and departed for Loon Lake to try and halt the progress of the Ashcroft Reserve wildfire as it threatened their cabins. In the early morning hours of Saturday, they arrived and saw flames in the areas around their cabins. Kyle's cabin was obliterated. Despite his sadness, he went into action fighting back flames that were encroaching on neighbouring properties.
A Go Fund Me account has been initiated by Kyle's friend, John Rowan. John is trying everything he can to help Kyle out.
Reaching out for Kyle was easy call for me. I am trying to help him, just like he helped to save other people's cabins from being torched by the massive wild land fire. What Kyle had done just floors me. To me it's unreal to have someone risk their life or injury and prosecution to save somebody else's cabin.
While authorities are still investigating the cause of the blaze, the BC Forest Service says it was possibly sparked by an overheated train wheel.
Update: RCMP rule out rail activity as potential cause for the blaze.
