Kyle’s Medical Emergency- Bone Infection

Donation protected
On January 30th,2020 I had major surgery to remove hardware from my entire right radius bone. This was my third major surgery on this same bone. Unfortunately they found a major bone infection which will require additional surgery and PICC line antibiotics! Back story: I originally broke my radius in February of 2015 and dislocated my elbow simultaneously on a basketball floor one Friday evening. Flash forward 2 years later, I broke the same bone in a different spot with instrumentation. This required my surgeon to remove the old hardware and install an longer plate with 7 screws drilled into my radius bone. For the past 3 years, I’ve lived with on again, off again chronic pain from this hardware. When I first started having complications, I spent countless hours going to my doctor. I had blood work, CT bone scans to make sure there was not an infection. After results coming back negative, her only advice was immediate surgery. This was in the month of May of 2017. Only 5 months from my previous surgery. I was just getting my fiancé (now wife) and my step daughter finally back into financial repair. So I pretty much ran from that idea out of absolute fear! Since this time I have scheduled surgery a couple times and life got in the way. Both times have been because of acquiring new employment that was going to be non-physical labor. I have been a sole proprietor of a Roof, Gutter and Window Cleaning Company since 2010. I had a strong growing business with on repeat clientele. Much of this was lost due to my inability to find decent hired help in a short time period during my rehabilitation from unexpected injuries spread out between the last 5 years. My wife and I got hit with another blow on Jan 31st, 2020 when they discovered I have a major bone infection. This is going to require 6+ weeks of a PICC line feeding antibiotics to my chest. I will also have another surgery to remove antibiotic bone fragments and scar revision. After this surgery, I will have another 3 months of strict rehab and weight restrictions. Long story short, I am asking my friends, community and family for some financial assistance of any kind. Even financial advice! I have a very uncertain timetable on when I will be healthy enough to return to any kind of work. My wife is full time- hard worker and a mother. Unfortunately, her income alone is not enough to cover all of our monthly expenses while I battle this infection and additional surgery. I’ve never gone out on a limb like this for help, but I’m definitely worried about my wife and 12 year old daughter having their needs met in the coming months while I focus on getting completely healthy. I’ve certainly learned a tough lesson when it comes to having a future emergency savings fund and I’m also determined to pay it forward when I get healthy and back to work. I know we all struggle with battles, some silent and some not. I feel a bit vulnerable putting my issues out there, and especially do not want to come across as begging. Any assistance would be used to take care of my families immediate needs moving forward while I battle illness. With all of the love and gratitude in the world, Sincerely, Kyle Pederson
