Hello and namaste!
I started practicing yoga about five years ago, since then I have absolutely fallen in love with the spirituality, breath, and overall essence of yoga. Yoga has become more than just a practice for me, it has become a way of life. Through yoga I have become more grounded and have found another passion in life other than performing. I love to perform and be onstage, it has been my light for so long. Discovering yoga has given me a new passion in life that I would love to share with others.
Also, you do not see enough black gay men teaching yoga. Through my certification I plan on using my platform to change up the yoga game by being more diverse, showing everyone that yoga is not just for the elite it is for us all. One love. It is important to me to be an example of my community and show them that YES black men, especially black gay men, are also able to meditate, find their happy, and be apart of the conversation that is yoga. I want to be a vessel for others to see themselves through my practice.
I would use this opportunity to deepen my knowledge of yoga by doing it in Dharamsala, India home to the Himalayas, a plethora of Buddhist temples, and is just a few hundred miles from the birthplace of yoga!! Cool right?! Certification is possible in the states but believe it or not more expensive and a longer process. Being able to learn from true yoga masters in the homeland of yoga in less than a month, you really can not beat that.
I am hoping to accomplish this goal over 25 days in a 200 hour program (Nov 3-Nov 27) that will teach me various styles of yoga, anatomy and physiology, sequencing, chakras, and yoga philosophy just to name a few. Having this knowledge in such a historical and majestic place is a learning experience I have been looking into and dreaming of for quite some time.
