The Kyle Honan Heart to Heart Foundation is raising money for a member of our community . Her name is Tatianna Powzaniuk . She is a 43 year old mother of three.
Here is her story in her own words.
Since the beginning of the year, I have been having intermittent pain in my hip which caused some difficulty walking. After several chiropractor visits and not seeing any improvement, I decided to go to the doctor to have my hip examined. What started out as a simple morning doctor visit on August 21st, ended up with a heart-breaking discussion with an oncologist later that evening. Subsequent test results and biopsies would confirm that I have metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (mTNBC)! The cancer had spread from my left breast to my lymph nodes, liver, lung, pelvis and spine. Being only 43 years old, wife and mother of three, that diagnosis shook us to our core. To add to the drama, in the beginning of July, my husband, Dorian, was laid off from his job after 20 years. That was very disconcerting because he carried our benefits and held the steady income. He is still unemployed to this day, but quite honestly, he needs to be around right now to help with me and the kids (Sebastian 15, Julianna 13 and Christian 5). I had to step away from my duties at the office as well as I need to focus on my health right now. With God’s help, loved ones around us and a positive attitude, we are making it work right now.
Several weeks ago, I was experiencing increased back pain. So last week, November 16th, was supposed to be a simple doctor visit, but much like this diagnosis began, gave us a surprise again. The doctors told me that the pain was due to the cancer degrading several vertebrae and that they needed to be reinforced with pins, rods and cement. I was admitted to the hospital that night and didn’t come home until five days later after the spinal surgery. I’m finally home now and working on rehabilitation and focusing on my next phases of treatment which include radiation and chemotherapy.
