I am Kim, Brooke’s sister and Kyle's sister-in-law. I set-up this Gofundme account as a way to get information out to all friends and family about Kyle, start a prayer chain and raise money for Kyle's medical bills, deductibles and future medical expenses. I did my best with telling the story of the past few days as it has definitely been a whirlwind of a week. I will update as new information is learned.

It all started on Saturday, October 13th, which also happened to be the 6th anniversary of Brooke and Kyle's first date. They were outside doing yard work, removing a downed tree from Hurricane Michael. Kyle suffered a major seizure and lost consciousness. He was taken to the hospital via ambulance where the two of them sat for hours, just waiting. Later that evening, Kyle had a CAT scan that showed a dark spot on the front of his brain. The doctor was concerned so he ordered an MRI. The MRI came back showing a tumor. The decision was made to have surgery for removal of the tumor. At first the Dr. made it seem like this would be a simple surgery, the tumor was not in a part of the brain that would cause impairments or deficits and he would be home a few days after. This sounded great as far as brain surgery goes. Surgery was scheduled for Tuesday the 16th at 1:00.

The next day, the neurosurgeon spoke with Kyle stating that he had been studying the MRI and had concerns that the tumor appeared to be a Glioblastoma...NOT GOOD  They wouldn’t know with certainty until they got the biopsy results and wouldn’t know how extensive the tumor would be until they got in there.

Monday 10/15
Brooke spent the day with Kyle in the hospital, both trying to assure the other that everything would be fine. Karen and Kevin (Brooke’s parents) drove in on Monday night from Pittsburgh.

Tuesday 10/16
Kyle was taken down to the O.R. at 1:00pm. Kyle's Mom, Susan, arrived from Texas shortly thereafter. We were initially told that the surgery went well. The surgeon explained that the tumor was 6-7cm and shaped like a spade, but that everything went smoothly. Shortly after that update the surgeon came back out, this time pulling up a chair. That is never a good sign  Kyle had suffered another seizure when coming out of anesthesia and was now presenting with some L sided paralysis. They sent him for an MRI immediately. The MRI showed that there was still a small portion of tumor remaining and some bleeding. Another scan would be done in the morning. By 7:30 that night, Brooke, Karen and Susan were finally able to visit Kyle in the ICU. He was still very groggy from anesthesia, mumbling, but in good spirits. At this point he was unable to move his L arm and had difficulty moving his head and eyes to the left.

Wednesday 10/17
Not a good morning. When Brooke, Susan and Kevin arrived in the morning, Kyle seemed more groggy than the evening before. He was sitting up in a chair, resting. Physical Therapy had already been in and he was able to get up and take a walk that morning. Kyle was having difficulty talking, speaking in 1 word answers, but mostly using sign language that his sister, Kim had taught him years ago. Still no movement in his L arm, and difficulty swallowing. Brooke was in the room when the surgeon checked in and she said that the look on his face was one of concern. No one wants to see that look from the surgeon. Occupational Therapy was in to work on his left arm. Speech Therapy came in to work on his oral motor skills and swallowing.

Another MRI was done at 1:00PM. There is a meeting with the surgeon tomorrow morningwith results of the MRI and to get some questions answered.

As it stands we are awaiting biopsy results (should be back by Friday) and current MRI results.

This is going to be a long road with a lot of uncertainty along the way. We are asking all to pray to whomever you pray to for positive results from the biopsy and improved functional mobility. When Kyle is medically stable enough to leave the ICU, he will transition to the Acute Rehabilitation unit. This GOFundme was set up to assist with current medical bills, future medical bills and lost wages from work. We are not certain at this time how long Kyle (and Brooke) will be out of work.

Thank you for your continued prayers and contribution.
