Help Kyle On His Path To Recovery

Donation protected

On November 30th, 2023 Kyle Dorosz, 37, experienced a rare and devastating stroke.

He was able to be revived, and survived the emergency surgeries that followed, but Kyle is still in the Neurologic ICU with a medical team working around the clock towards the best possible outcome.

There are very few people in this world who make everyone around them feel loved, feel comforted, feel cared for — who make sure others feel seen. There are even fewer people who selflessly give themselves without a second thought, offering kindness, friendship, fatherhood, curiosity, and love to all those around them. Those who have met Kyle Dorosz, even briefly, know he is all of the above and more.

Kyle became a father for the second time, welcoming a baby girl only weeks before this stroke. What was a time of great joy and celebration has become a time of uncertainty. With his wife Gretchen, two year old son, and baby by his side, Kyle has everything to fight for.

While he has not yet been able to fully regain consciousness we (his family and friends) are hopeful that his condition will continue to stabilize and improve. His doctors are also optimistic, on account of his young age. True to his dedication and unwavering spirit, Kyle’s vital signs have been improving and he has, on a few occasions, been able to answer questions with eye movements and blinking so we know he’s in there and we know he’s fighting hard to come back.

In order to continue to provide the best care possible, relieve some of the financial burden from his young family, and help pave a pathway forward, we ask for your help.

Whether you know Kyle as a friend, always there for everyone around him; an indelible force who brings positive energy to every room he enters; a photographer, capturing unsung icons for NYMag, or telling stories for T, championing authenticity and celebrating community; a father, giving his time and attention unequivocally not just to his own children but to those of all his family and friends; a music-lover who always has the perfect playlist at the ready… we ask that you join us in hope and positivity as we help Kyle and his family create a path towards recovery. And if you don’t know Kyle — yet — we thank you for taking the time to read his story.

Our goal is to clear some of the financial hurdles and allow Kyle and his family to focus on what is most important—his continued recovery. Your contribution will help defer some of the unexpected costs that the Dorosz’s are, and will be, incurring:

-Medical bills (the obvious one) and health insurance premiums. With or without insurance, co-pays and deductibles add up big time!
-Caregiving and providing for his 2-year-old son and infant daughter
-Rent, bills (to allow his wife to focus on the children and Kyle’s recovery)
-Future procedures, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy
-Loss of income (as both freelancers and primary providers can understand)

With all our love and appreciation,
The family and friends of Kyle Dorosz
