Kyle's POTS, MCAS, COVID-19 illness treatment

Hi! First and foremost we want to thank you for reading Kyle's story and for your ongoing prayers and support.

As a close friend of Kyle's, I have watched him struggle with his health for the last five months. He has always been an extremely active person, passionate about his work, and dedicated to leading a healthy lifestyle but everything changed in January of 2020 when he collapsed in front of his apartment with severe intestinal pain after a gym session and almost went unconscious. He was able to crawl inside his apartment and dial 911. He was taken to a local hospital where the doctors thought he passed a kidney stone but he could feel there was something more going on with his body.

After his release from the hospital, he tried to get back to work but he kept collapsing and his symptoms started to get worse. He would try to stand up and his blood pressure would drop as low as 76/60 with a rapid heart rate of 140+ bpm. He started to have neurologic symptoms, difficulty breathing, and anaphylactic (shock) episodes.

During the last five months, he has had 8 ER visits and has had two hospital stays where after countless blood tests, MRI's, CT scans, X-Rays, Ultrasounds and tests, the doctors were able to narrow his diagnosis to that of POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), Orthostatic Hypotension, and strong evidence of MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome). The doctors haven't been able to really explain the root cause of all that is going on. These syndromes (POTS/MCAS) are some of those "unusual illnesses" that we simply don't know much about or get to hear about very often.

Kyle battles with a slew of health conditions that make everyday life challenging and impossible at times. Constant debilitating symptoms like high heart rate when standing, difficulty getting out of bed, low blood pressure, dizziness, fatigue, lightheadedness, labored breathing, sensitivities to screens/noises, nerve pain, insomnia, limbs going numb and tingling, gastrointestinal issues, low body temperature (95.4 F), and episodes of shock. He has lost 28 lbs in four months (pictures were taken before he lost the weight).

These conditions (POTS/MCAS) have flipped his life upside down and has made it extremely difficult for Kyle to do the simplest everyday things.

He lives alone in Ft Lauderdale, FL. but it got to a point where he could no longer live alone. He had to rely on his family members flying to Florida on 6 different occasions to stay with him, care for him, and drive him to multiple doctors' appointments. For now, he's staying with his mom in Texas since he hasn't been able to take care of himself at all. He is continuing to see doctors in Texas, but COVID has made it difficult to get appointments.

A cure for POTS doesn't exist at this time. This disease does not typically go away easily but POTS symptoms can often be effectively managed through rigorous treatments once the underlying cause has been identified.

Desperate for answers, in researching his POTS condition, his family came across the website for the POTS CARE treatment center near Dallas. They have countless testimonials of people similar to him, with the same symptoms, finding relief while going through this treatment center's protocol once they have identified the underlying cause of the disease. Kyle has already been accepted and was able to put down a partial payment of $1,000 to hold a spot in June. Unfortunately, PotsCare is a private treatment center that does NOT take insurance and full payment of $8,800 must be made at the start of the two-month treatment.

As you can imagine, these last months have been extremely difficult for Kyle and his family in every aspect, and finances have been tremendously impacted due to his medical condition.

This campaign hopes to raise $12,000 to cover some of his medical costs. The money raised will be used to pay for the PotsCare Treatment Center fee ($8,800 + lab work fees), hotel/travel for him and his mom, in addition to other medical bills after accumulating over $110,000 in insurance claims the last 4 months.

Despite it all, Kyle feels very hopeful that this treatment center will find the underlying cause of this illness so he can get the care and treatment he needs and ultimately be able to work again and regain his life back.

Thank you in advance for your generosity. We know these are tough times for everyone and If you are unable to help financially, your prayers will be forever appreciated.

Thank You!
