Hi, my name is Kyla and I recently had a liver transplant. I had a rare genetic disease called Wilson's in which the liver stops processing copper in the body. I was unaware that I had this condition and it wasn't until I was experiencing liver failure that I even knew I was sick. I was lucky enough to receive a lifesaving liver transplant just in time. Following my transplant I've had to accept several new lifestyle changes. Immunosuppressive medications to prevent the new liver from rejecting, are both expensive and compromise my immune system. I'm starting this fundraiser in hopes to help with medical costs from my helicopter transport to Massachusettes General Hospital and the 3-week stay that followed. This will also assist with travel costs and refilling my life-saving medications. Recovery is going well so far and I plan on returning to school in the fall at UMaine Orono. I'm so glad to say that I've gotten this second chance at life and I'm ready to live to my fullest potential. Any donations made are appreciated and will be put to good use.
