My name is Kyla Ramirez , I'm a 34 year old mother of 2 boys and this is my story... I have always had a lot of health problems, but have tried my best to live life as normal as possible.
I have a rare blood disorder called MTHFR which causes blood clots and can cause complications in pregnancy. In 2006 I was diagnosed with Type 1 brittle diabetes when I was pregnant with my first son. I struggled with my blood sugar levels going up and down constantly, causing me to have a high risk pregnancy, and a lot of other health problems. In 2010 I was diagnosed with diabetic neuropathy, and had to start treatment i developed severe nerve damage due to that. I had to quit my job in home health care, and was forced to find a job more suitable to my condition. I tried working through the pain but my neuropathy became so bad I started developing diabetic ulcers on my legs and feet and had to quit working completely. In 2011 I was expecting my second son, I was told he was going to be born with special needs and would need surgery as soon as he was delivered. He was born with Hydrocephalus, Septo optic dysplasia, scoliosis and chiari malformation. He had to have a brain surgery and a shunt placement when he was less than a week old.
During this time I was left to be a single mother and dealing with all of the stress and anxiety of everything took a huge toll on my heart and health. I ended up in AFIB and had to have a cardiac olbatiin to correct the failure in my heart. In 2015 I started having bad stomach problems, and felt sick all of the time, I was hospitalized with pancreatitis, and a few days later learned I also had Diabetic Gastroperisis and I had to completely Chang my diet and start taking a lot of medications just to be able to eat. In 2018 I got a bad ulcer on my left foot and had to have a PIC line put in to receive IV antibiotic infusions For 2 months, but they didn't help. After many hospital stays and treatments I still developed gangrene in my foot and the infection spread into my bone, and I ultimately had to have a below the knee amputation on February 27th 2020. This past year has been very very difficult, Covid 19 hit around the same time as my surgery and I wasn't able to go through the physical therapy and the normal steps someone would take after having an amputation. I had a lot of trouble healing and had to be put on a wound vac for almost 4 months to get the limb to heal. I am wanting to get a prosthetic leg so that I can get back to somewhat of a normal life, and able to do things with my kids again and eventually get back to work. The problem is my insurance will not cover a prosthetic limb because they say it's not a medical necessity!! I have applied for and been denied for disability several times even using an attorney. I have put in several applications for assistance through limb loss programs but have been denied because I have insurance although they will not help cover for the prosthetic either. We created this fundraiser in hopes to raise part of the money its going to cost to get my prosthetic and to help with travel expenses to the doctors and appointments. I simply cannot do all this alone,so asking for your help to get me at least part of the way there is literally my last hope at getting back on my feet and Out of this wheelchair, every cent counts and every prayer is greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much
