Kyla's Courage: Facing Amputation with Optimism

Donation protected
At just 11 years old, Kyla was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. Living on the beautiful island of Guam, she and her family had to travel to Manila, Philippines, for the necessary treatment that was unavailable back home. After enduring multiple rounds of chemotherapy and undergoing a total knee replacement in September 2009, Kyla faced mobility challenges but continued to embrace life. In May 2018, she was finally able to return back home to Guam. However, by January 2024, 16 years post-surgery, she began experiencing knee pain that required her to use crutches and then in August of the same year, she and her surgeon in the Philippines agreed that amputation would be the best course of action. While many might hesitate at the thought of amputation, Kyla remains optimistic and looks forward to her surgery in January 2025, viewing it as a chance to regain her active lifestyle without discomfort and crutches. The cost of surgery and the prosthetic leg will be costly, thus the purpose of this GoFundMe. With that said, any donations small or big are appreciated. Even simply sharing this post with your family and friends is well appreciated. Your help will go towards Kyla’s amputation surgery and the purchase of her external prosthetic leg. Thank you for taking time out of your day to read my story.
