Kyla Jean's Fight: Tumor Surgery & Recovery
Hi everyone,
My name is Kyla Jean, and I’m reaching out with vulnerability and hope as I prepare to undergo brain surgery for a tumor located in the 4th left ventricle of my brain, near my brainstem. (My surgery is happening on August 13th) It’s been a challenging road, and I’m asking for support as I face this next step in my healing journey.
My symptoms began over a year ago with intense, painful headaches, and quickly progressed to weakness, numbness, and instability in my limbs — especially my right leg and arm. I’ve had to use a cane for stability, and my vision, hearing, and mental processing have all been affected. I’ve also been experiencing “drop attacks,” where the tumor blocks my cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), causing episodes of sudden weakness and collapse. During these attacks, I become unable to move, speak, open my eyes, and sometimes even stop breathing for short periods. These terrifying episodes can last over 30 minutes and leave me completely drained.
As a result, I’ve been unable to work a steady job. I’ve gone from working full-time to only being able to do small Doordash deliveries when I’m feeling well enough — which is unpredictable. I can still drive and leave the house, but only for short periods and with caution. On hard days, I require frequent breaks and help.
My recovery time after surgery is expected to be at least 2–3 months, and I may also need physical therapy afterward to regain strength and mobility. Some of the nerve damage I’ve experienced may be permanent. This fundraiser will help cover my basic living needs during this critical time — including rent, groceries, transportation, medical expenses, and aftercare support while I heal and rebuild.
If you’re able to donate or share this with others, it would mean the world to me. Your support not only helps me recover — it reminds me that I’m not alone in this.
With love and deep gratitude,
Kyla Jean
