My name is Kaitlyn and I'm begging for any help for my pitbull Ginny! My best friend and the biggest love of my life had a tragic accident yesterday while playing in the yard. Ginny lunged off the last 4 steps off of the deck playing fetch like her usual crazy self. All of a sudden I heard extreme yelping and when I turned to look, she was dragging both of her hind legs. I ran down to carry her into the house and called the emergency vet and got her there ASAP.
Once she arrived, they took her right in and did an x-ray. Ginny has pressure on one of her discs and an out place part of her spinal cord. We were immediately rushed to another vet that specializes with this sort of thing.
They took a closer look at her spine and assured us that there was no fracture, but she is indeed in an excessive amount of pain. They recommended that we medically maintain her overnight to see if there was any improvement, which we have done. With Adam just landing a job, we are falling behind as it is, and we dished out the last of our funds for the overnight stay, the x-ray and the meds. It came to $1,900.00 already.
The vet has given us three options:
- We get the surgery, with her having a 95% chance of being normal with her case.
- We medically treat her, and she'll be permanently paralyzed. We would need to pay for tons of therapy and pain medication and a wheeling device for her to get around.
- We put her to sleep.
I clearly am making my best efforts to save my girl. The surgery was an estimated cost between $6,000-8,000. It's also the cheapest route in comparison to medically treating her.
If this can't be done, I'm looking to putting our girl at rest. Which is breaking my heart by just the thought of it. I'm begging for any help! Any contribution, big or small means the world to us.
