Hi everyone! My name is Abby Smith and I am making this post/fundraiser on behalf of my mom, Jennifer Smith. She is the most amazing, strongest, toughest, hardest working woman I know. She’s the greatest and I admire her so much. ❤️
In early March my mom was admitted to the hospital. Since then our entire lives have been turned upside down and our family is reaching out during one of the most difficult times we have ever faced. My mom became critically ill after going into septic shock caused by a severe infection. What started as a frightening medical emergency quickly turned into a long and painful battle for her life and recovery.
After a lengthy hospital stay, treatments, and road bumps, doctors ultimately had to amputate her lower left leg in order to save her life. While words cannot express the immense gratitude we have for the doctors and God for saving her life, the road to recovery has been overwhelming both emotionally and financially.
Since returning home in mid-April, my mom has been working hard every day to heal and adjust to this life changing situation. She continues to need ongoing medical care, follow-up appointments, rehab, and daily assistance as she/we learn to navigate this new chapter.
We are asking for help to cover the many unexpected expenses that come with her recovery, including:
- a new wheelchair
- medical supplies and wound care items
- medical equipment for home use
- doctor and specialist appointments
- transportation and recovery-related expenses
- future mobility and rehabilitation needs
- home modifications
- loss of income due to not working
