Hi, my name is Stacey and my husband Zack and I were enjoying our long Labor day weekend when disaster struck. On Monday, September 5th at around 11:30 am every dog owner's worst nightmare. Kya, our 4-year-old husky who is loved by anyone she meets, had escaped the fence and was hit by a car going around 50 mph. Zack saw it happen and rushed to see if she was ok. The car that hit her didn't stop to help. When he got to her she was still breathing, but because of the hit, we thought that she would not make it. With it being Labor day the closest emergency vet open was about an hour away. Zack rushed her there and luckily upon arrival there was a limited amount of internal bleeding and no neurological damage (that they know of). However, she had 5 pelvic fractures, 2 sacral fractures, a luxated hip, and a damaged heart. After consultation with the vet, it was determined that with successful surgery, Kya could return to a normal life. We had no choice but to go ahead with the surgery. After nearly a week in the hospital and major orthopedic surgery, she should be able to come home in a day or so. With all of this work and time obviously comes a substantial bill. Originally the ER vet said $8,000-$12,000. After difficulties with her heart, and having to push the surgery back a day, that has ballooned to $15,000. We have not picked Kya up so we still do not have a total. However, we will update this page as we receive information! This is an extremely unexpected financial burden on our family. Please help donate or share anything you can! No amount is too small or will go unnoticed. My husband and I thank you so much!
