Kya’s Story
Up until the beginning of November Kya was living a completely normal 2.5 year old life. She loved life on the farm with her family, keeping up with her big brothers, & being her silly, spunky, living life to the fullest self!
In October she developed strep. The fever lingered & Kya started to complain of stomach pain. The concerns were brought to the doctor on a few occasions & they passed them off as lingering side effects of strep. It wasn’t until Kya started to show increased signs of abdomen pain, tenderness, & even distention that prompted her mom, Ashley, to reach out for other opinions. Ashley sent pictures of Kya’s abdomen to her mom & the doctor she works for. They confirmed the need for concern so Ashley sent the pictures on to Kya’s doctor. After an office visit on November 9th orders for labs & a STAT ultrasound were placed. The next day the results showed that Kya indeed had a large mass on her right kidney that would need removed. They were admitted to the hospital & November 13th the mass was successfully removed & sent off for testing. Kya recovered in the hospital for another 3 days & was released November 16th. Then the waiting game began.
After a long & agonizing wait the results were in. Kya was diagnosed with stage 3 Wilms tumor cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes. This was absolutely devastating, as this meant not only would she need chemotherapy but also radiation. Kya will be admitted November 30th to start these treatments.
No child or family should have to go through this. But thankfully they are far from alone during this new & unwelcome journey. They have an amazing support system from their family, friends, & community. They find comfort in knowing God is with them every step of the way! Kya’s motto, “God’s got me!” That He does sweet Kya!
As Kya will need aggressive treatments it was decided Ashley would stay home full-time to take her to her sessions, appointments, & ultimately care for her in anyway she’ll need.
Many of you have asked, “How can I help?”
-Prayers for peace, comfort, & healing mean the world!
-Their church has started a Meal Train that all are welcome to contribute to https://takethemameal.com/INSL7817. Freezer meals & restaurant gift cards are also welcome!
-Travel expenses to her treatments & appointments will start to add up so gas cards are helpful!
-Gift cards for groceries (Aldi, Costco, Walmart, Amazon) will also help lessen the financial stress.
-For any of the above needs & medical costs not covered, monetary donations are much appreciated! You can donate to this Go Fund Me page or send directly to them via mail.
