Kyarra's Hope: A Future Without Pain
Kyarra was born with Sickle Cell Anemia. Sickle cell causes severe pain, stroke, shortened life expectancy, organ damage, as well as other complications.
As a baby, Kyarra was hospitalized two times a month every month. Once she became school age, she missed between 34-40 days of school a year. Due to her illness, this caused her to miss out on her own birthday, birthdays of friends and family, camp, activities, and other events that most teenagers get to experience because she was in too much pain or in the hospital.
Kyarra has an opportunity to receive Gene Therapy, which is a CURE for Sickle Cell! This will also give her an opportunity to live life as normal as other teens/young adults, an opportunity to go to college and pursue a career as a hematologist, become a mother, and have a happy, healthy extended life.
Not many people know that I have had to either quit jobs or I've lost jobs due to Kyarra's frequent hospitalizations. Her longest hospitalization lasted 80 days. Unfortunately, because I don't qualify for FMLA, I will be unemployed during this time while Kyarra is receiving her treatment(approximately a 6-8 week hospital admission), as she recovers, and for follow-up appointments.
Although this is an exciting opportunity for Kyarra, it comes with many financial needs. Our goal is to raise money to help offset financial obligations such as monthly household expenses, food, transportation, and child care for my youngest child.
Please consider donating to this fund which will help remove some of the financial pressure.
