Kyanite’s Recovery ~ Navigating Care While Still Healing
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
If you’re here, thank you already.
My dog, Kyanite, is my heart. He’s not just a companion—he’s been with me through my work as a spiritual counselor, a gentle presence during sessions, and a reminder to keep going when things felt heavy.
Kyanite’s early life was marked by hardship. His previous owner, concerned for his well-being, entrusted him to me after suspecting their roommates had subjected him to abuse. This traumatic environment left Kyanite fearful and anxious, carrying invisible scars. Determined to give him the love and stability he deserved, I welcomed him into my life—and together, we began a healing journey built on trust and care.
Just before Kyanite’s condition took a turn, I was already in the middle of healing from a major injury of my own. Last year, I broke my arm in five places and tore my rotator cuff while helping my neighbor. The injury was misdiagnosed for over five months, and by the time they caught it, the window for surgery had closed. Since then, I’ve been in pain management—receiving injections in my shoulder and neck, and working through physical therapy. I’m still not cleared by my doctors.
I was slowly gaining function back when everything changed again—first with a pit bull attack in October, and then a spinal emergency in January that left Kyanite unable to use his back legs.
Here’s a quick timeline:
• 10/23 – He was attacked. The vet treated him and gave precautionary meds. He seemed to bounce back.
• 11/14 – He started showing signs of pain and difficulty walking. The vet suspected a pinched nerve and prescribed crate rest.
• 1/28 – He began dragging his feet. I rushed him to the ER. He ended up needing an MRI and had emergency spinal surgery (L2–L6) that same day.
Since then, I’ve been managing both our healing: vet visits, expressing his bladder, hand-feeding, adapting his environment—and doing it all while still physically limited. On top of the financial strain, the time it takes to care for Kyanite is constant—between bladder expressions, gear adjustments, wound care, cleaning, lifting, and regular vet visits. At the same time, I’m still juggling my own follow-up appointments, physical therapy, and shoulder pain. Every day is a nonstop balance between his care and my physical limits—and with both sets of medical expenses piling up, it’s more than one person can manage alone.
So far, I’ve already spent over $15,000 on diagnostics, emergency surgery, medications, and post-op care. And we haven’t even started the next phase of his recovery, which is expected to surpass another $5,000. The medical bills, rehab equipment, and daily care essentials continue to add up quickly. As someone who’s been navigating this solo, the financial and emotional toll is overwhelming.
Just recently, he voluntarily wagged his tail—and that small movement felt like a miracle.
While CareCredit helped in the short term, I’m now facing significant medical debt, ongoing rehab expenses, and costs for mobility supplies and daily care essentials.
I created this GoFundMe to help cover:
• Emergency surgery and follow-up care
• Rehab evaluations and treatments
• A properly fitted wheelchair
• Medical supplies (pee pads, belly bands, supplements, physical therapy tools)
• Any continued imaging or testing he may need
If you’ve ever felt supported in a session, seen a post from Ohm Chi Ohm that brought you peace, or felt even a moment of comfort from Kyanite’s sweet soul—I’d be so grateful for any support you feel called to offer.
Whether it’s donating, sharing the link, or simply holding us in your thoughts—thank you from the bottom of my heart.
With love and deep gratitude,
