Noemi has been a part of the Salsa community in the DMV area for years! The list of teams she has either performed with or been a part of is quite impressive (but the best team she was ever with was Sentimiento LOL). I've always admired Noemi's positive outlook despite some health issues. She has a sunny disposition and quickly became like a sister to me. Noemi is a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, wife,friend and her empanadas are amazing!
Please read below and share with anyone who will find it in their hearts to donate so Noemi can fight this aggressive type of cancer.
* After a devastating diagnosis of stage 3 Angiosarcoma of the scalp, a very rare and aggressive cancer, Noemi was urged by oncologists at John Hopkins to treat this very aggressively. The statistics were not promising, with only a 30% survival rate. The standard protocol to treat this type of cancer is chemo, surgery, and radiation treatment. Unfortunately for Noemi, radiation is not an option because she also has lupus and scleroderma which present other complications.
*After meeting with her oncologist, Noemi was advised the tumors were indeed shrinking and the next step would be another 3 months of chemo to prep for surgery. However, this surgery will be pretty invasive , almost disfiguring and does not guarantee complete eradication as this type of cancer is known to spread. Insert sad face here.
*Instead of doing surgery, what Noemi wants to do is to try a holistic approach of diet change and re-purposed drugs to combat the tumors. She has been researching radical remission cases of people that have healed their cancers NATURALLY and has come across the Gerson Institute.
Gerson has a 2-4 week detox clinic in Tijuana, Mexico to help those affected by cancer and immune disorders heal using holistic therapy. They have medical staff on site to assess each patient, provide training to the patient and a caregiver companion. The cost of the treatment is $6000 a week and a minimum of 3 weeks is needed. This expense is NOT covered by insurance and as you would imagine will put a big financial strain on Noemi and her family at an already stressful time in their lives.
I am counting on the strength of our DMV dance family and associates to help my sister Noemi fight this terrible cancer with her choice of treatment!
