Five years ago Rachel went to work on a sunny day in May never knowing her life would never be as she knew it from then on. She suffered a stroke at work. After 3 more strokes she was not closer to any answers as to what was happening to her. Through the advice of friends she departed to Long Island and NYC to meet with a team of Drs. Then came the news.... a rare disease only 20,000 people per year are diagnosed with... Neuro Bechets. It has been a roller coaster of symptoms and attacks to her body. After one, six week stay in a hospital- bleeding internally and almost losing the fight, she powered on. After the continued findings of more abnormalities in the brain, severe facial pain from compressed nerves, and still awaiting results from her liver team, she continues with infusions every three months, and the once a month second infusions. She continues the fight. Now as she awaits the liver team’s decision, she is faced with immediate brain surgery next week as a less evasive procedure actually worsened her symptoms.
While Wings Flights of Hope has been amazing, their pilots etc are not always available. There are always additional Uber travel fees, hotels, food, and of course the outrageous medical expenses.
Rachels strength on the outside through all of what she has had to endure is inspiring. But it’s not an easy ride. She fights so hard and will continue to fight for herself, her beautiful girls and her husband.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please keep our beautiful friend, daughter, wife, and mommy in your prayers. She WILL fight through this.
