In June 2012, our son and brother, Mark Christensen (Lehi, Ut) and his family were engulfed in an unexpected trial. At the time, he and his wife Sarah (Lindsey) Christensen were raising 4 boys, Geddy (12), Eli (9), Wesley (7) and OIlie (5) while Mark also continued to work long hours with his flourishing self-owned (and award winning!) tile company, Tarkus Tile, to provide a decent living for his family. Anyone who has seen his work can truly vouch that he is a master at what he does!
A few days before this trial, they found out they were expecting their 5th child, Samantha (2). Sarah soon sought medical help for symptoms of vertigo. We soon learned that she had a mass growing in her brain that would require surgery. She then, newly pregnant, underwent a craniotomy which led to the discovery of a cavernous malformation of a blood vessel which had to be removed. The surgery left Sarah with many disabilities affecting her motor skills and speech, including her ability to walk unassisted and to drive.
That fall, she was diagnosed with placenta previa and later gave birth via emergency c-section to Samantha on November 6th, 2012. Samantha was born at just 33 weeks and weighed 4 lbs, 5 oz. Samantha was in the NICU for over 4 weeks, where she experienced many complications with breathing and feeding. After their release from the hospital, Samantha soon became very sick with RSV and was again admitted to Primary Children’s Intensive Care unit where she almost lost her life.
In June 2014, Mark was diagnosed with stage one testicular cancer. He immediately underwent the recommended surgery followed by chemotherapy. He is currently being monitored regularly by his cancer specialty team.
He continues to work hard to support his family the best he can but also needs to often take time away from work to assist at home. During these times we have seen a tremendous outpouring of love, support and sacrifice for this sweet family for which we are very grateful.
Due to the ongoing struggles, tremendous medical bills and the need for continuing assistance with children and the home, we are reaching out for some help.
