This past April Jose started complaining of pain in his eye and having a hard time focussing. Jose's mom noticed that his eye was bulging a little and immediately took him to the doctor. The doctor said it was probably because of too much screen time but encouraged her to take him to an eye doctor. Jose went back to school waiting for this eye appointment. In the mean time teachers and staff started to notice Jose's eye. The school nurse decided to intercede and got Jose into Eye Surgeons the next day, and the day after that he had an MRI. There was a tumor in Jose's brain that was pushing against his eye, and the tumor had also spiderwebbed throughout his brain. The doctors did bloodwork and confirmed Jose has Leukemia. He was taken to the St. Jude affiliate clinic in Peoria, Illinois and shortly after that transferred to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. After being treated in Memphis for a while, he was transferred back to the St Jude affiliate in Peoria where he is still undergoing treatment.

 

I work for the Rock Island/Milan School District at Denkmann Elementary where Jose is currently a sixth grader. I am setting up this Go Fund Me account to help his family during this difficult time. Jose's mom is driving back and forth to see her son while also trying to work in the QC to pay bills. Jose and his family need our help. Please share, pray, and give if you are able.
