Debbie Kievits because "Kindness is Magical"

Debbie Kievits has dedicated her life to running the Norwich Bully Busters, a local nonprofit in the city of Norwich, CT. She established this organization 22 years ago to educate the community on Bully Prevention Law and school policies regarding bullying, and has continued leading the group since. Debbie has worked tirelessly for the last 22 years to empower parents, children, youth, educators, and the community to prevent and stop acts of bullying. Through her work with the Norwich Bully Busters she was able to pass legislation to further ensure the safety of students and children in the state of CT with the Bullying Law. Throughout the years Debbie has reached hundreds of youth throughout the years ranging from the ages of 9-17. Many of the youth Debbie has reached throughout the years have gone on to lead fulfilled lives with successful careers from real estate to state representatives serving the same community they started in. Many of these youth come back to volunteer and give back to the organization that inspired them to be kind humans. Debbie was recognized in March 2023 as the USA Today's Woman of the Year, a recognition of women who have made a significant impact in their communities and across the country.

Debbie's motto on life is "Kindness is Magical" and she shares this with everyone she meets, even sharing daily affirmations on her Facebook page to inspire others to be kind throughout their day. These small acts of sharing kindness have a large impact on those that follow her. She works hard to share her message and let the community know kindness is free and when you're kind to someone it spreads.

Debbie has given so much to the Norwich, CT community and that kindness she's shared with the many youths, families and other individuals that have been blessed to meet her extends further than she could imagine. She always says the kids give her energy and that's what has helped her through the adversity she's experienced in her life. Although Debbie shows up for her youth any time she's expected, she battles daily with rheumatoid arthritis and is a cancer survivor. Debbie is the definition of resilience.

Unfortunately, Debbie's vehicle broke down the day before her USA Today Woman of the Year brunch for the state of CT, and she no longer has a working vehicle to continue her weekly programs with youth. Fortunately, many community members and friends recognize the amazing work she does and have given her rides so she can continue supporting the youth who rely on her. Debbie needs a "new to her" vehicle with summer programming starting soon. Please consider donating anything you're able and continue Debbie's mission to spread kindness. #kindnessismagical
