We’re almost there! Once again, my AVID students (a program for first generation & underrepresented students on the path to 4-year universities), many of whom will be the first in their family to attend college, are finishing up senior year of high school! In order to send them off prepared, I’ve started my second Go Fund Me campaign to help buy laptop computers (Almost 50% of the class doesn’t have their own to take to school).
Who are my students?
Andrew, Manuel, and Everardo all plan to become either mechanical or electrical engineers, with a special interest in automotive engineering. Amira will become a teacher, studying Child Development, while Willie will have a focus on Pre-Kiniesiology. Kat plans to study Marine Biology, while Amy will major in Pre-Dietetics. Erick and Gary look forward to studying Economics, while Lisa is resolute in her desire to become the next Shonda Rimes, studying screenwriting. They have all been accepted into either the California State University System or the University of California and are ready to get started! I have deep respect for each of these students and have watched them grow into young adults over the last two years. I have faith they will all be successful in their chosen careers.
The Plan
1. Buy 10 refurbished laptops for approximately $400 each. I will buy these by May 30th.
2. If extra funds are left at buying the computers, they will be used to help with any housing and orientation deposits that cannot be paid. These can range up to $700 for students moving away from home!
3. Finally, if we are lucky enough to have any more left over, it will be awarded as small scholarships to fill the gap of anyone still in need.
Where You Come In
Your support is critical. Please give what you can and know it will be used immediately for the most basic needs of a first year college student. With your help, we can do this!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your support.
