My name is Sharon, and my parents and I are raising funds for my sister, Rozenna, who was unexpectedly detained by ICE on Wednesday, 17 June in Allison, Iowa. She is currently detained in Linn County Jail in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She has no criminal history and there are no charges against her for her to be detained.
Rozenna entered the United States legally with a student visa and graduated from college here. Our family had worked with an attorney for a number of months to apply for Rozenna's permanent residency and work visa before her student visa expired, however, this attorney did not file the paperwork correctly and for this reason, Rozenna lost the legal status she had.
It has been a heartbreaking and distressing time for our family as we are worried and afraid about her safety, and all the uncertainty with how long she will be detained, if she will be moved around the country, the inhumane conditions she is having to suffer through, and the legal battle we are facing to fight for her release.
We are a missionary family who have served overseas for most of our lives. We have been in the United States since 2017 for Rozenna and I to pursue further education. Rozenna desires to become a mental health counsellor to serve others who have suffered through traumatic events. Rozenna is kind, caring, hardworking, and always tries her best in everything she does, especially to serve other people. We are deeply hurt by what has happened to her.
We are overwhelmed by the financial burden associated with Rozenna's situation. We need to raise funds to cover the costs for attorney fees and potential bond costs as we navigate the immigration legal process. Access to qualified legal representation is critical during this time. The costs associated with immigration attorneys, court filings, consultations, and related legal proceedings can be significant, creating a financial burden for our family.
All funds raised will go toward legal fees and other expenses directly related to securing fair representation and assistance throughout the immigration process. Any contribution, regardless of size, will help ensure that Rozenna has access to the support needed to understand and exercise her legal rights, as we work to support Rozenna and fight for her release. Her first court hearing is on 9 July at 8:30am.
We kindly invite you to prayerfully consider giving a donation to help us cover the costs for Rozenna’s attorney fees and potential bond costs. Your kindness and generosity through this difficult time means so much to us, and we are forever grateful for your support. Please share this page and keep Rozenna in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your willingness to stand alongside Rozenna and our family. Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
For Rozenna's safety, we have blurred the family photo and have not included her full name.
We will post updates on this page as they come, and adjust the fundraising goal as needed to cover ongoing legal costs.
