Help Melissa Pay Anu's End of Life Vet Bills
Donation protected

A week and a half ago, Anu started showing signs of digestive problems and her appetite drastically decreased. We thought it was an upset stomach and had hopes that she would resume eating soon enough. However, after a few vet visits and rounds of tests, medication, and appetite stimulants and enticing her to eat with appetizing food, her appetite still hadn't returned. Further blood tests showing liver damage and increased white blood cells indicated that she needed to be admitted to urgent care and be hospitalized asap. At this point, it still wasn't clear what had caused these issues and this sudden downturn. Standard procedure in urgent care is to ask pet owners to accept or decline authorization of resuscitation in the event of a cardiac arrest. They had said this was very unlikely to happen in Anu's case, so Melissa accepted. When they brought Anu in for her ultrasound, they gave her a sedative. Her heart stopped.

After they resuscitated her, she needed a respirator to breathe for her. The vet said the situation had significantly worsened but there was a possibility she could still regain brain activity. It still wasn't clear at this point if the central problem was cancer or something else. Melissa stayed with Anu for hours, seeing how hard it was for her to breathe and how much pain she was in. In the end, it was best to end her suffering.
The whole ordeal has been a shock. It was very challenging to make decisions without knowing what was wrong and what would allow Anu to recover. To be able to walk out of the hospital, Melissa had to spend her savings and max out her credit cards. We are now asking friends and family to help Melissa pay for the hefty medical bills, so she has fewer financial burdens to worry about as she grieves.
Thank you for reading and for remembering Anu, the sweetest, cutest little doggo who fit in all of Melissa's tote bags.
