The Oasis Project

Hello there,

Hearty greetings to the start of a new year. I hope the year is off to a great start for you and yours.

I am Matthew Blaise and, coming into this new year, I have thought to give new light, perspective, and structure to my advocacy and drive towards a more equitable society. This new structure, "The Oasis Project." was created because marginalized people in Nigeria continue to face criminalization, violence, intimidation, and discrimination based on their sexual orientation and gender identity. It is worse because the state is taking active parts in these violations and allowing them to be committed with impunity by certain private actors.

The Oasis Project
While taking cognizance of the people who have started this work before us, we understand that there needs to be a multilateral approach to address the present situation of things. This initiative will be a Nigeria-based registered not-for-profit-organization, working to create a society of more aware and diverse people where human rights are guaranteed regardless of status, identity, orientation, and affiliation. We exist to educate, uphold, empower, and promote the rights and humanity of all Nigerians.

The Oasis Project Platform
In Nigeria, we understand that minorities, especially the LGBT community, are in dire need of safe spaces, "The Oasis Project." we provide a place to connect and engage, find camaraderie and support, and celebrate the vibrancy and growth of the LGBTQ community and the journey towards acceptance. Out of this hub, we will operate a resource center where minorities can receive mental and sexual health consultancy also an emergency response where the case applies. All these will be easily accessible through the online platform.

The Request
We will like to open conversations on creating a mutually beneficial relationship via our community engagement, outreach, and empowerment programs to help educate, uphold, empower, and promote the rights and humanity of all..

The Oasis Project is currently in need of support in however way you can to help build this platform and a safe space for Nigeria’s sexual minorities.

- Building our website and setting up our emergency response system for mental and sexual health advisory
- Commissioning of producers and writers to develop and execute content for queer Nigerians
- Organizing of community healing sessions for queer Nigerians
- Setup a fund for displaced queer folk around the country
- Operation and staff remuneration
