-Maple made almost a full recovery with her 6-8 months of rehabilitation. We were so happy with the progress she has made. But unfortunately, this winter has not been kind to her and with her being unstable on slippery surfaces to begin with, we think she slipped on some ice in the back yard, and ended up tearing her right back knee’s ACL. She now is unable to walk with her back right leg, and her front right leg was weak to begin with from her stroke, so her movement is very limited. We are having to carry her up and the down the stairs to go outside multiple times a day, and she’s only able to hobble around one small area of our house that is carpeted.
Two treatment options: It will either require surgery to repair. Or we can go through rehabilitation again with a specialized orthotic for her knee with ongoing rehab and exercises.
The orthotic and rehab is a bit cheaper (at $3000+) but it’ll be a difficult journey for all of us (especially me being 6 months pregnant right now), and less predictable that she will get full mobility of that leg again. Surgery is more predictable and less recovery and rehab time, but it is much more expensive and will cost us close to $5000.
Everyone has already been so generous to maples recovery in the past so I really don’t expect people to donate again. But if people can share her story and maybe others who haven’t donated want to donate to her journey now, anything is appreciated and worth a shot for maples quality of life ❤️

-Maple was diagnosed with a fibrocartilaginous embolism (which is like a stroke in her spine) and is slowly improving with her mobility everyday. But to be able to walk comfortably on her own again, this will take months of weekly rehab sessions, which we are so happy to be able to do for her to improve her chances of recovery, but does cost a lot of money in the long run. Whatever donations/help people can give is greatly appreciated ❤️
Original post:
-Maple has had a history of minor back issues but they were managed in the past with chiropractic sessions and CBD oil. She seemed to be doing great for the last 6 months with no recurring back issues. But today (April 23) she went on a small bike ride around the neighbourhood with Rob and suddenly collapsed. Although she can wiggle her paws a bit and isn’t completely paralyzed, she cannot stand at all, she just collapses on herself. After some pain medication tonight, and antinflammatories, she didn’t seem to be getting any better and was in a lot of pain.
I took her to Fairfield for overnight emergency stay, which they can help keep her comfortable and do some blood work. But just that costs $1000. They suggested doing a CT scan of her spine, since that is most likely the issue after their assessment. But a CT scan is another $1300 and that doesn’t even include treatment. I honestly don’t know if maple is going to be able to walk again or even make it through the night. But I’d like the give her the best shot I can to do so. Any little amount helps towards figuring out what’s wrong and seeing if we can treat her.
