Dear Friends,
It is with the saddest heart that I share the news of Luke's passing on March 23rd, just before 7 am. His transition was peaceful and uniquely special, embodying the unexpected magic that was so quintessentially Luke. Today, March 29th, would have been his 56th birthday.
This is my first attempt at writing an update, as Luke was always the one at the helm. He had an insistence on steering the ship, and if you know Luke, you know I say this with humor. While it's difficult for me to step into this role, I feel compelled to close the loop on the past 14 months.
Many of you have asked how you can help or if there will be a service for Luke. He expressed a wish for no funeral or burial; Luke had strong feelings about not being underground and chose to be cremated. I want to express my immense gratitude to all who have supported us over the past year. Your generosity during this challenging time has been incredibly humbling.
If you feel inclined to give again, know that your contribution will go towards closing Luke's medical expenses and supporting me during this transition. Additionally, Luke was deeply involved in a prison ministry in Bridgeport, CT, which brought him immense joy. He touched the lives of many individuals, offering support, mentorship, and encouragement. In his memory, I would like to contribute resources to this program, allowing it to expand and thrive.
While he was in hospice, just days before he transitioned, Luke was visited by two of these men. After their release from prison, they reached out to Luke, who continued to befriend, uplift, and mentor them. They wrote notes to Luke during their visit, expressing gratitude for his unwavering support and kindness. They thanked him for seeing something in them that they had failed to see in themselves and for believing so deeply in their potential and future. Luke impacted many personally and professionally but this ministry, this time lending an ear and hope to others, was his most treasured part of a week.
To those who knew us and those who never met Luke personally, your support means the world to me. I am grateful beyond words. As for celebrating Luke's life, I plan to gather his friends together at some point. Please reach out if you'd like to be included in the celebration.
Thank you all for your love and support during this difficult time. I am profoundly appreciative.
Warm regards,
