On January 31st 2017 Michael Brady was supposed to have a routine knee surgery in a VA  hospital five hours from home.
There were complications from the surgery. There was a problem intubating him for surgery. They put a tube down and ended up collapsing his trachaea, forcing them to use a larger tube. When the larger tube went down, Mike aspirated. They had started the procedure and when the doctors realized there was a problem they closed the incision. The second tube nicked the back of his throat and also injured his lungs. This caused him to start bleeding into his lungs and around his heart.

The doctors were unable to take the tube out because of the aspiration. They brought him to the intensive care unit, where he was not only hooked up to a vent, but also various other things.

Upon being admitted to the ICU it was evident right away that Mike had an infection in his lungs that later turned into pneumonia. There was also a blood infection requiring a picc line to be placed as a way to quickly administer antibiotics and other IV medications.

Through his life and especially his twenty years in the army there have been struggles, some more difficult than others, but this may prove to be the toughest one yet.

Thankfully Mike is off the vent and almost everything else. He remains in the intensive care unit so that physical and occupational therapy can work with him to get him strong enough to be moved to another floor. At this point doctors and therapists are hoping to have him home in another 3-4 weeks. This will give them a chance to help him get stronger and figure out what kind of adaptive equipment he will need at home.

We're trying to raise money for expenses accumulating while he recovers, such as travel costs for family to go back and forth, and bills piling up due to his inability to work, as he is the sole income in the household.

His wife, four kids, family and friends are all anxious to get him home.

Thankfully there is a wonderful organization for military families called the Fisher House. This place lets military families stay as long as they need to, at no cost while their loved one recovers. The Fisher House does so much good for so many people. We are very grateful for such a place.

If you are unable to contribute, please consider sharing this and keeping our family in your prayers.
