Hello there, my name is Jessica and I am a manager at a local restaurant in Lees Summit, MO called Summit Hickory Pit BBQ. One of our hardest working and dedicated employees unfortunately passed away suddenly on Monday October, 11th and our restaurant family would like to raise money for a memorial or funeral (whichever his family decides) and funds to help his wife out in this difficult time.

Rey Maldonado was our prep cook and worked on the line as well. He had the most diligent and organized method of work that I have ever seen in a kitchen. He was constantly looking for ways to make the kitchen more efficient and functional and was very successful at it. He reorganized all of our utensil drawers, laid out tubs with clean rags for easy access to servers, constantly wiped down the window when he was on the line and his work space was immaculate. He took pride in all that he did including preparing our sauces, sides, and desserts. If anyone has ever had our homemade bread pudding at SHP, Rey made it perfectly. All of us would laugh and joke because we could tell if a different cook had made the bread pudding because it wouldn’t have the perfect golden brown finish and touch that only Rey could add. Reys presence, work ethic and funny witted demeanor will be dearly missed here among our work family. There will forever be a void here at SHP but we will always remember him and make an extra effort in his honor. If anyone feels so inclined, please donate in Rey’s honor.
