As many of you who know Cathy and / or myself (and for those that don't), this is an extremely difficult time for the Proulx and Stevenson families and this is not an easy request we find ourselves compelled to make.
Cathy and Brad's son, and my stepson Ryan, was diagnosed, in early November 2015, with very aggressive Stage IV esophageal and liver cancer and is unable to work.
As all Ryan's family and friends will attest, to know Ryan is to love and respect him. He is gentleman who's internal 'tiger' is now in a vicious fight against a horrible disease.
Ryan is currently undergoing an equally aggressive 'standard' chemo therapy at Sunnybrook Hospital, in Toronto, under the care of the wonderful oncologist Dr. Cheng and the terrific staff at Sunnybrook.
We have now, in conjunction with this therapy, began a process of test trials in the USA
This process encompasses, injecting into several avatar mice, Ryan's specific cancer and treating them with numerous types of chemo.
The objective is to find the chemo cocktail that attacks and kills 'his' cancer. A designer treatment which has shown much success, but which is not completely available here in Canada and not covered under our Ontario medical insurances.
We have now embarked on these trials with one American group and have begun incurring significant additional expenses, but to continue to success, our costs will exceed our collective resources.
We are, therefore, with all humility and gratitude, asking for your assistance to help us ensure Ryan gets the care and cure he so rightfully deserves.
Ryan and all of us on Team RyGuy want to thank each of you for your time, consideration and contribution. Everything will make a world of difference.
