For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Lynette and I’m currently in Canada helping my dad who has recently had a hip replacement.

My partner, Roy and I live in a rural area in Hanover, Jamaica where he farms and raises chickens. Hurricane Beryl on July 3rd has caused significant damage throughout Jamaica but to be honest, I’m not sure of the exact extent of damage in our yard as I have yet to hear from him since power was cut on the day of the hurricane. UPDATE: Roy drove into Negril today to call and he, the house and animals are all fine! Giving thanks for answered prayers! There was significant damage to the fencing and the utilities are likely to be out for some time but we’re giving thanks!

All infrastructure in the area is still down meaning there is no power, no internet and no running water. We have no idea how long it will be down for but expect a lengthy wait for repairs due to our rural location.

Roy has been a helper all of his life, taking care of friends and loved ones, and in true Jamaican spirit, always sharing what he has. I’m sure he’s sharing the tank water in the yard as well as the food in the freezer and is likely cooking up a storm for our neighbours. He co-partnered with me and our team in starting Hope For Hunger Negril at the onset of COVID which saw over 4000 bags of groceries distributed to those in need and now I’d like your help, to help him.

I hope to be working within the month but in the meantime, he and many others could use your assistance. Initially I hope to collect enough to get him a generator (as there are none available on the island) and that way he’ll be able to continue raising his chickens, and cover any repairs needed to the fencing. If extra funds are raised we’ll be distributing them in the community to those in need.
