On January 16th, 2025, my father Travis was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer after going to the hospital due to back pain. The shock, sadness, and terrifying situation my family has experienced with this diagnosis is hard to properly put into words.
My dad is my world and my best friend, and I will try anything to help him beat this thing. Knowing my dad is loving my dad. He is quick to crack a joke and always makes everyone around him laugh. Up until 2 months ago, he drove a school bus for Parkway School District, and in the summer, he runs his personal business, R&M Tropical Sno, which is a shaved ice stand in Manchester, Missouri, and Chesterfield, Missouri, where he has built a loyal and devoted group of shaved ice lovers.
Doctors have told him that they are going to throw the standard chemotherapy and radiation at it and hope for the best. Unfortunately, this treatment is fairly archaic and not super effective. My dad and I decided to start doing our own research, and we found a promising clinic out in Scottsdale, Arizona called Envita Medical Center that is showing promising results for beating cancer using cutting-edge technology.
They utilize genome testing to figure out what treatment would be most effective for my dad based on his body and cells. They then use a hairline needle to inject a small dose of fractionated chemotherapy directly into the tumor with vitamins and minerals that will kill the tumor and none of the good cells.
Unfortunately, this cutting-edge technology is not covered by our insurance, and these procedures can easily run over $100,000, which is money my family currently does not have.
However, they do offer an accelerated program which would have my dad stay in Scottsdale for 2-3 weeks, have the procedures, and then come back to his oncologist in Missouri. This program is a lot cheaper and ranges from $40k-$80k.
I truly believe this procedure could save my dad's life and I am desperate to keep him around, so I am turning to our community. Any funds I can raise through this GoFundMe will be put towards either getting my dad to Arizona for this accelerated program or general usage in helping him through his cancer journey. Things like bed toppers, in-home nurse fees, walking assistance, etc.
Anything this campaign raises will be massive in helping my dad, and I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to read his story. If donating is not for you currently, please share this on social media if you can.
Thank you and God bless you.
