My name is Trish Tallakson, and I am writing on behalf of my friend Nancy Braun Castanon, who has suffered a series of challenging medical and financial events within the last year. The first being that she was diagnosed with stage four liver Cirrhosis, even though she doesn't drink. While she was on the liver transplant list, she was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer. Then she found out that the liver failure also caused both of her kidneys to fail. Blessedly, she successfully received a double transplant of both the liver and kidney within one week following her breast cancer surgery in February 2024. Unfortunately, during a routine biopsy of the kidney in June, it was punctured and then became infected and is now failing. She now has to have a second kidney transplant. However, she is currently being treated for severe acute liver rejection, and she cannot have the kidney transplant until the liver situation is resolved. We are praying that the procedures used to treat the liver rejection will be successful; however, if they are not, she will also need a second liver transplant, (which will cost more than our $10,000 GoFundMe goal).
Tragically, while exhausted from numerous dialysis treatments and not able to think clearly, Nancy was scammed out of her life's savings through a phone call. Neither the bank, nor the police have been able to recoup those dollars.
Anyone who knows Nancy, knows that she is a woman of deep faith, with a generous and loving heart, who can deliver a wickedly funny one liner. Nancy has always put family and others first. Throughout these many challenges, she has not given up hope. Her faith and positivity have endured even on the harder days. She has shown true strength and the will to survive throughout all she has experienced. She continues to fight despite all of the setbacks in this medically challenging time. Her positive attitude, faith in miracles, and sense of humor make her an inspiration to me and all who encounter her.
Nancy needs help covering the expenses associated with her upcoming kidney transplant and continued treatment for the acute liver rejection. After being a victim of a scam, she could also use some encouragement. If you want to send a note of encouragement, a donation of $1 will enable you to do so. Please know that whether you donate or not, sharing this link with your friends and family would be extremely helpful and sincerely appreciated. While Nancy’s hospital costs are covered in full by her insurance, most of her procedures are done outpatient, which are not covered in full. Any donation amount is greatly appreciated and will help her focus on her health and recovery:
$5 - offsets gas costs to/from the out-of-state medical facility
$15 - pays for parking or a taxi when the shuttle is not available
$25 - offsets the cost of uncovered prescriptions
$30 - covers a meal for Nancy and her volunteer caregivers
$50 - covers the copay for her outpatient treatments
$90 - covers a night in a hotel
Thank you for spreading the word of Nancy’s situation and helping her financially if you are able. May you find the strength, courage, and humor to face your own challenges in life that Nancy has found for facing hers.
