Hi, my name is Steven, and I started this GoFundMe campaign to tell you about my wife Jennifer, and to raise support for her continuous medical care. Jennifer, the short woman in the picture attached to this campaign, is the strongest person I know. She's got the biggest heart and great love for her family and friends. She has overcome many obstacles in her life, most notably her childhood cancer when she was only four years old.
Jen was the first female survivor of a rare muscle tissue tumor called Rhabdomyosarcoma, which had centered around her paranasal cavity. Unfortunately, the chemo and radiation treatments she received had multiple and long-lasting side effects, for which she is still being treated more than 35 years later.
The damage caused to her Pituitary gland stunted her growth hormone, causing her to have medically induced dwarfism. Other hormone issues followed, later causing her to develop Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), Graves disease, chronic sinusitis, and liver and kidney issues. Due to the PCOS, Jen can no longer become pregnant, so it was a miracle we had our son Lucas when we did shortly before this condition worsened. Because of Graves disease, she had to have her Thyroid gland irradiated and is now on complete hormone replacement medication. On average, she becomes sick with sinus-related illnesses about once every month. We must get many over-the-counter and prescription antibiotics throughout the year to treat her symptoms. The liver and kidney issues are again a result of the multiple hormone deficiencies, causing fatty liver tissue, kidney stones, and cysts to develope.
Jennifer is also now completely deaf in her left ear because of the treatments and surgeries she received as a child. Her hearing loss was slow, but degenerative over many years. To compensate, she now uses a hearing aid in her right ear, which also has showed signs of degeneration. She may become completely deaf, which is a scary thought, but one we may some day have to face the reality.
Jennifer will soon turn 41 years old, but has already gone through a very early menopause. Her body is losing the battle against time, and she has developed artheritis and shows early signs of osteoperosis.
This campaign is a simple plea to all of you to help us shoulder the constant burden of her medical care. Medical treatments have bancrupted us three times already in the past 17 years. Medical bills pile up between her primary, ENT, cardiologist, endochronogist, urgent care, bone specialist, OB/GYN, radiologists, not to mention multiple prescriptions she must take daily. We no longer own a home, instead living in her parents' house so we could focus on her medical treatments and our son's education and future. We are essentially a single income family though, and barely scrape by at times. I do what I can to keep her healthy, and provide for our family, but even I cannot keep up with the rising costs of her healthcare.
Jenny has a heart of gold, and often I fall in love with her all over again when she puts other people's happiness before her own. She has used her creativity to craft things for people all the time. For friends and family's weddings, birthdays, celebrations, as well as for people that are practically strangers, just because she wanted to show kindness to them.
Jen is often misunderstood though, has been an object of ridicule by ignorant people, or has been rudely stared at because of her short stature. Even in these times she tries to show the better part of grace by educating people about why she is the way she is. For staring children, she lets them know she is an adult, and that it is rude to stare. Adults get a mouthful for doing this when they should have known better. It is a sad but stark reminder though of the struggles she has had over the years.
Please consider donating to this GoFundMe to help pay off her current and continuing medical care costs. Thank you, and God bless.
