Like most ideas I have this one started with a simple thought. "I haven't been to Maine.....I like biking.....why don't I bike to Maine?" That idea slowly morphed into, "How could I use this bike trip to positively impact other people?" My Middle School and High School Cross Country and Track teams quickly came to mind.
It's difficult to put into words the impact that my High School distance running experience had on my life. Our team and coaching staff had a special kind of grit that I never found anywhere else in my running career. For those who are not aware, Kutztown is a fairly small town surrounded by cornfields and farms. Until this year the Middle and High School had a gravel track and struggled at times with resources to purchase new equipment and uniforms. Our workouts loops were marked by cones in the parking lot or the grass field nearby. Despite our circumstances, our coaches had a gift for inspiring us to run through pain and setting goals higher than our opponents'. I graduated high school in 2010 and I still talk to my middle school and high school coaches for running insight and life advice. The mentorship they offered me and my teammates was invaluable and I'll forever be grateful for it.
This fall I will be biking from Pennsylvania to Maine. Throughout my trip I'll be sharing this fundraiser. Kutztown is a small town with a small budget for athletics. I'd like to use this as a way to raise money for a team that has been impacting youth in Kutztown in incredible ways for the past few decades. Donations will be sent to the Kutztown High School Track and Field Booster Club and will be used to purchase new warm-ups, training/competition shoes, equipment, and meet entry fees. If you are a Kutztown High School alumni who is unable to donate money- consider tracking down (no pun intended) a coach who impacted your life and sending them some encouraging words or a "Thank You."
I set a goal of $2,000, but if we hit that I'll continue raising the goal! The more we raise, the more years of met needs these teams will have! If you have any questions about this fundraiser or ways you can contribute feel free to reach out to me!
