Kutiy: Our Great Migration
A film out of the largest Quechua and
largest Bolivian community in the U.S.
There are nearly 6 million Native Andeans
in the Global North diaspora. Rarely does
the world see our story.

Kutiy in Quechua means “to return.” Produced by a daughter of this community, this short film captures a phenomenon: every year, scores flock back to the small Quechua towns of their heritage in the Valle Alto of Cochabamba for agricultural festivities ("Carnavales"). Hailing from the nation’s capital, they land in the corn-filled fields of Achamoco, Arbieto, Mamanaca, Villa Verde…

These children and grandchildren of immigrants sophistically straddle realities: English and Quechua language; pop and Andean music; holding university degrees and white-collar careers while parents grew up subsistence farming. The embrace of their native culture after centuries of stigma provides a vision for a world where people can create social and economic security without being forced to sacrifice who they are—a luxury that our ancestors did not have.

Our story, our Kutiy, paints a picture of hope and joy for people of all backgrounds!

❤️Anchata agradeceyki to every one of you, from the bottom of our hearts.
