Help Kurt Wenzel and His Family Cope With ALS.
A Call For Support and Compassion.
I am reaching out with a heavy heart to share the story of my best friend, Kurt Wenzel, who is currently fighting the toughest battle of his life. Kurt was diagnosed last year in July with ALS, a devastating neurodegenerative disease that gradually robs individuals of their ability to walk, talk, eat, and breathe.
ALS is a cruel disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness, paralysis, and ultimately, loss of life. There is no cure, and treatments are limited. For Kurt, this diagnosis started last year in July and since then has been a life-altering blow, not only for him but also for his family, friends, and everyone who loves him.
Kurt's Story:
Kurt has always been the life of the party. He always had that certain something about him that drew people to him. His warm smile and quick sense of humor, kind heart, and unwavering loyalty have made him not just a best friend to so many, but a true brother to me for the last 48 years. Whether it was cracking jokes, helping others, or simply being there when needed, Kurt has always put others first.
Now, it’s our turn to stand by Kurt as he faces the harsh realities of ALS. The progression of this disease has been unpredictable and has moved swiftly at effect Kurt’s body, and as it takes its toll, Kurt will need ongoing medical care, specialized equipment, physical therapy, and modifications to his home to ensure his comfort and safety.
The Financial Strain:
While Kurt has been receiving some treatment, the costs of the medical bills, in home assistance and necessary home adaptations have depleted most all funds available. His last day of work has come and gone and will only have private insurance until the end of April. Unfortunately, health insurance doesn't cover everything, and the financial burden has become overwhelming.
As his health declines, he will need increased care and support, which puts a significant financial strain on his family. His wife is not able to work so she can be the 24 hour a day care giver that he needs. Which is a difficult job part time but becomes too much for one person to handle 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
How You Can Help:
We’ve created this GoFundMe page to help ease some of the financial pressures Kurt and his family are facing during this incredibly challenging time. Any amount helps, $5, $10, $50.
The funds raised will be used to:
• Cover medical expenses for treatments, doctor’s visits, and necessary therapies.
• Kurt’s home has been modified to a certain extent to make it more accessible, including installing ramps, lifts, and other essential equipment. But this has also depleted his funds.
• Provide home care assistance to ensure Kurt has the support he needs as his condition progresses. These costs for just part time care can be upwards of $300 a day. Full time care can skyrocket to as much as $2000 + per week.
• Assist with transportation needs, including specialized vehicles, as he becomes less mobile.
Your Support Means Everything:
Kurt has been there for so many of us throughout the years. He’s the friend who listens, encourages, and supports. Now, as he faces this devastating disease, we can be there for him. Your donation, no matter how big or small, will make a tremendous difference in Kurt’s life and help his family navigate this difficult journey.
If you’re unable to donate at this time, we completely understand. Please consider sharing this campaign with your network and spreading the word. Every share, every prayer, and every kind thought is deeply appreciated.
Kurt has always been a fighter, and with your help, he can continue to fight this battle with the strength, love, and dignity he deserves.
Thank you for your compassion, generosity, and support during this difficult time. Let’s come together and show Kurt just how much he means to all of us.
With heartfelt gratitude,
