26.2 miles for Betty Warner

Betty Warner was a very special woman to me. I met her at a dog club meeting several years ago. Little did I know how much of an impact she would have on my life. I started walking her beloved golden retiever Annie on a regular basis. Everytime I walked Annie I would talk to Betty and she became my friend at a time when  I didn't have many friends on HHI.  I looked foward to our visits.  Betty was a huge animal lover, I think that is why we got a long so well. We shared a love for dogs and I always admired her positive outlook on life.
I am running a marathon on March 7 in Albany, Georgia for Betty. I want to raise as much money as possible and donate it to (JARM) Jasper Animal Rescue Mission in her name and memory!
Betty was born in 1926 in Copenhagen, Denmark. She was the oldest of four kids and lived in Copenhagen while it was occupied by the Nazis during World War II. When she was 21 she moved to New York to be an Au Pair for a family there. She continued to live on this side of the pond all of her adult life but added Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto, and Boston to places she called home. She and her husband retired to Hilton Head Island in 1987. She was an avid tennis player and loved sailing. But the thing she loved most in her life, apart from her family, was animals. She often said her children were so generous because they kept “giving” her their pets. It is a great comfort to know that she is in heaven with her cats, Pearl and Elsie and her dogs Laska and Cody. Annie, her trusty companion of the past six years, now lives with her daughter on the Island and is well loved and cared for. There was no cause greater to her than animals and a fundraiser for JARM is a very fitting tribute to her.
Jarms mission: To serve the people of Jasper County  by providing shelter and humane care to dogs and cats that are lost, abandonded, neglected or abused; reducing the population of stray and neglected dogs and cats by promoting and providing spaying and neutering; and providing educatioinal material and learning opportunities concerning the proper care of treatment of pets.
The money will be used for much needed supplies for the shelter such as food, cleaning supplies, cat litter, toys, and medication. Everything they need to keep the animals happy and healthy on a daily basis. Depending on the amount raised they could also use the money for larger needs such as heartworm treatment and kennel repairs.
