Sat Nam Folks!
In the Kundalini Yoga tradition here in the West, all classes end with the chant "Sat Nam" and it is a Gurmukhi word that translates roughly to "everlasting truth" or "truth is my name".
My name is Shirley and I am a hatha/vinyasa yoga teacher and a therapist at a community mental health agency. I say Sat Nam as a greeting to you all because it is a reminder that all of us are extensions of the Divine Truth of being. Yea that may sound a litle esoteric, but when it all comes down to it, we are all hella powerful and magnetic beings...even though we may live in a society that does not say so.
My job as a yoga teacher and most recently as a therapist is actually to remind people of their ability and to honor themselves with compassion and love. Sounds like a lot of fun? It can be, but the other part is that it means I have to do the same for myself. That is where the work gets interesting.
I have wanted to complete a Kundalini Yoga Teacher training for at least 7 years. I have written it down in my new moon lists for many years and dreamt about it, and finally the time is NOW where I have decided I want to study this beautiful lineage with the amazing teacher Krishna Kaur . I am drawn to Krishna as a yoga teacher and activist. She has done amazing work teaching yoga to adolesenct aged folks in the prison and detentional institutions. Now I am not sure I have the nervous system at this point to teach to folks in prison, but I do have a strong passion to bring this form of yoga that is truly about freeing the mind and getting out of our own mental prisons both to myself and to the communities that I work in.
This is my way of honoring myself and bowing to the truth within me which is that I want to do this training! I want to share this yoga practice! And I believe in the healing medicine of Kundalini Yoga.
I am asking for your help to donate anything you may be able to contribute to this journey of freedom and TRUTH for all beings everywhere. I cannot do this by myself. I am calling on my communities that I have shared with and that have nurtured me for your help in donating or sharing this campaign with others.
Thank you so much for reading.
Much love to you all, Shirley
