Darryl's Medical Expenses

About Darryl- From Lebanon Pennsylvania. 31 years old. Engaged to Kelly. Has a dog named Charlie. Loves F1(Hamilton), Guns, Computers, Tinkering, gambling, Hockey(Capitals), Motorcycles, and Beer.

He works as a Systems Administrator/Assistant IT Supervisor at a school district in Central Pennsylvania. Essentially he oversees the system operations and delegates work to the technicians. He makes sure the shit gets done!

About the Accident- On April 12th of this year, Darryl was traveling home from work on his motorcycle going around 55 MPH when an oncoming box truck turned in front of him and across his lane. Darryl had tried to slow down enough to get around the back of the box truck but unfortunately didn’t make it past before he hit the back of the box truck and flew off his motorcycle. Upon impact, Darryl's right leg was torn off below the knee. As he lay on the ground bleeding out, a Good Samaritan saw the accident and jumped into action. He took off his own belt and put it around Darryl's leg to try and stop as much of the bleeding as possible. The Paramedics got to the accident and rushed Darryl to the hospital where he was taken immediately into the trauma unit and prepped for emergency surgery. He ended up having a broken left femur, broke his pelvis in 3 spots, a compound fracture of his right arm, destroyed his left hand and wrist, and countless other fractures in his body. The doctors had to amputate his right leg from just above the knee so that he would have a better chance to walk and live normally with a prosthetic. On the first day of being at the hospital, Darryl needed 55 pints of blood put into his body because of all the blood he lost and would continue to lose those first 24 hours. Once stable, Darryl had endured more surgeries over the first 12 days of being in the hospital than any human should have to go through.

The biggest kicker in all of this was that the accident happened 4 days before his wedding to his wonderful Fiancé, Kelly.

Darryl had been in the hospital from April 12th until July 22nd. He had been doing some light physical therapy. Today he is at home with his fiancé and dog. He is doing at home Physical Therapy until his next set of arm surgeries. Once those surgeries are done and he is able to bare weight on his arms, then he will be fitted for a prosthetic and begin to learn how to walk again.

He currently has medical expenses that won't be covered by insurance as well as future costs for additional services to help him help and live a normal life.

Darryl has been my best friend for many years. He is one of the most genuine, honest, and smartest people I know. Over the years we have done so much together that it's really hard for me to think about things I’ve done that didn’t include Darryl. He has always been there for me no matter what and I know i could and still can always count on him. He never deserved any of this but his spirits and determination have remained high through it all! He is one of, if not thee strongest motherfucker I know! I am very proud to call him my best friend but he is more like a brother to me.
