Andrew and Jim both work within a busy NHS Social Work office. Following many chats over Andrew’s ‘insomnia inducing’ coffee, they discovered that both had unique hidden talents. A plan was hatched to raise money for printing/framing and to ultimately hold an exhibition of these two unique and contrasting works of art.
Andrew Newton has used his skills and experience as a photographer to capture images of incredible street art around Europe and the UK. He has presented these fascinating images in a unique and interesting way. Many hours of skilled photo-editing are involved in creating these amazing pieces of art. Each city’s street art and culture have been cleverly included within his fascinating, colourful and highly detailed photographic collages, based on popular board games. Andrew’s work is a feast for the eyes and will also generate a chuckle of recognition from anyone familiar with the locations and the board games of our childhood.
Jim McCombie draws inspiration for his work from ancient Celtic art found in stone carvings and illuminated manuscripts. These traditional zoomorphic themes have been brought to life in a unique, colourful, three dimensional and deconstructed form which he has explored and developed over a number of years. The images are executed in oils on canvas using the Flemish technique of monochrome underpainting followed by many subsequent layers of transparent colour. This technique, using hand made artist quality oil paint, creates a sense of depth and vibrancy of colour.
